Autumnal art as winter starts

As the mercury drops, the romance of autumn is replaced with the lonesome bitterness of winter. But just as the chills of winter can isolate, so too can they bring together friends and strangers in circumstances such as this. For one saturday The Colour Grey studio/shopfront will become a gallery hosting ethereal artwork by Noni Simmons accompanied by elegant cups of Black Coffee.

1580 is a visual discussion about universal experience, dance music, flowers and the autumnal landscape of Victoria, Australia. Mixed media, in hues of grey and yellow will cover the walls of converted shopfront of The Colour Grey studios, and create a new landscape inspired by the writings of Michel De Montaigne and Raymond Carver.

This is a very temporary experience, only open to the public twice this June.

With a 5 course degustation by Francesca Woods, Miami Horror DJs, singing mermaids: The Shellettes, an ever evolving array of installations and attention to details this blurb was bound to omit, Kistché is an event it would be an embarrassment to ignore.

This week we’re helping christen the newly opened Hungry Workshop space, home of some of the finest design and analogue print work in Melbourne. Saturday is their second day of sporadic trade since opening last week with an amazing exhibition of artfully produced local illustrators’ prints entitled “Trophy Lives.”

With new offerings coming in from Central America and Kenya, now is a good time get the new stuff while it’s fresh and say goodbye to old favourites.

The Hungry Workshop will be selling prints from their exhibition as well as other bits and bobs that they’ve been known to print including some products that aren’t available on the webstore.

The Sydney event was a supreme success and the time has come to thank the institutions and individuals who made it all possible.

First of all the coffee. If you live in Sydney support these roasters. They are all doing great things with great coffees. If your not from Sydney pay them a visit whenever you’re next in town.

Next the space. Not only are Outré Gallery ahead of the pack in displaying and selling contemporary pop and alternative art, they also happen to be some of the nicest and most genuine people on the face of the earth and worthy of your support.

While specialty coffee has enjoyed a fair bit of limelight in the last decade, few have been game to make special tea their specialty. Enter Hannah Dupree (rhyme intended) - owner/operator of Storm in a Teacup - whoâs been tweaking on tea for as long as weâve been on the coffee.

In addition to our usual offerings we have some Sydney coffee to spare and to mark this momentous marriage of fine tea and coffee weâll be introducing a new offering of cascara: a tisane brewed using the often discarded coffee cherry husk that encases the beans. Our hosts will of course be serving their meticulously curated menu of mind blowing, specialty and rare teas and tisanes.

Thanks to Storm in a Teacupâs late hours and liquour license there will also be a range of tea and coffee based alcoholic offerings into the evening.
